How to convert camera videos to Blu-ray movies and burn it on Blu-ray Discs

Did you always record scenes with your high-def video camera on family or wedding or other parties, and want to watch it anytime? Would you like to back up precious holiday memories as high definition discs? It will be also great to enjoy them with high quality and large screen, for example, to watch them on your HDTV.

Here is a tutorial illustrating how to convert camera videos to Blu-ray movies and burn it on Blu-ray Discs.

What You Need:

High-def Camcorder: or called HD Video Cameras, used to record HD videos for fun, such as Sony HDR-XR100E and Cannon HF200.

One piece of blank Blu-ray Discs: Insert a blank Blu-Ray disc into the computer’s drive.

Blu-ray Disc Burner: Sony unveils BWU-100A Blu-ray burner, for example.

Blu-ray Burning Software: Sothink HD Movie Maker

Step 1: Transfer Camera Videos to PC

Attach the camera to PC and transfer the video from the camcorder into PC.

Step 2: Add and Edit Video

Add Files

Launch Sothink HD Movie Maker. Selecting “Add Files” from File in the Menu or directly clicking button “Add Files” on the Toolbar, a dialog pops up for choosing movie files to the program. You can add more than one movie file at one time.

Trim Video

There is a window on the bottom of the program for previewing the video added in. You can click button “Play” to preview your source video and, if you just want to burn a part of video content into Discs, you may realize it with Trim function:

Select the video you have added into the program, go to “Edit” – > “Trim” function, and then you can decide which part can be burnt by dragging the left/right slider to set start/end time.

As the picture showing above, drag the left triangle to a position you want it be the start of the converted video and drag the right triangle to a position you want it be the end of the converted video. Then the video will be trimmed before being converted.

Set Disc

After you’ve finished adding files and editing video, it’s time to set the recording parameters and burn to disc. This is the tricky part, as it’s the only step of the process where things can go very wrong.

Go to General Settings or Advanced Settings panel and do some settings for the disc.

Under tab “Settings”, there are four general setting items in the Settings panel:

Target disc size: Click the arrow and select the target disc size from the drop down list.

There are four options: “DVD-5 (4.7G)”, “DVD-9 (8.5G)”, “BD-25 (25G)” and “BD-50 (50G)”. Since it is to burn the video on Blu-ray Disc, here choose “BD-25” or “BD-50.

Tip: If the video size is less than 8.5G, you may burn the video onto DVD and create AVCHD movie on DVD discs, which also needs to be played on Blu-ray player.

Disc label: Write the label here for the disc.

The default label is the current date. Here you can input other words for the disc.

Video dimension: Click the arrow and select the target video dimension from the drop down list.

There are three options: “1280*720?, “1440*1080? and “1920*1080?.

Video frame rate: Click the arrow and select the target video frame rate from the drop down list. There are two options: “25 (PAL)” and “29.97 (NTSC)”.

Tip: “PAL” (short for Phase Alternating Line) and “NTSC” （short for National Television System Committee) are the two standards of TV broadcast.

Step 3: Start Video Burning

Make sure the checkbox besides the video file(s) you want to burn is been ticked. If there is none movie ticked, the program prompts when starting burning. When all the checkboxes are ticked, the movie files added in will be burned following the order of the file list.

Select “Burn” from File in the Menu or directly click button “Burn” on the Toolbar, and then it starts burning:

Note: If there is no disc in the drive, it pops up a dialog for prompting and HD Movie Maker automatically creates a folder for saving temporary files.

The burning function requires Windows XP SP2/Windows Vista SP1 or above versions. If the system doesn’t meet the requirement, HD Movie Maker will automatically create a standard folder to store the generated Blu-ray movie.

Sothink HD Movie Maker supports multiple CPUs and multiple core CPUs, and supports concurrent conversion for multiple videos with high speed

Step 4: Play Blu-ray Disc

When the burning is completed, you may enjoy the high-def BD video on HDTV with various Blu-ray players, for example, Sony PS3.

My computer constantly crashes when I start it up normally, but in safe mode, it works fine. I’m trying to save all of my data before reformatting my hard drive. You can’t. In safe mode, the USB system isn’t loaded at all.

I’d recommend downloading a Linux LiveCD such as Knoppix, and using that to copy the data to an external disk instead.

Understanding Usb Flash Drive Functionalities

USB Flash Drives are small, light weight, removable and re-writ able flash memory data storage devices incorporated with a USB (Universal Serial Bus) connector. 

USB Flash Drives offer several advantages over other portable storage devices like floppy disks in as much as they are more compact and faster can hold more data storage are more reliable due to their lack of moving parts and have a durable design. USB Port appears on almost every current mainstream PC and Laptop.  USB flash drives use the USB Mass Storage Standard.

A USB Flash drive consists of small printed circuit board in a plastic or metal casing and so, USB Flash drive is sturdy enough to be carried in a pocket.  The USB connector protrudes and is safeguarded by a removal cap and a USB Flash drive uses a standard USB connection, which allows to be connected directly to the PC.

To access the data stored on a USB flash drive, it must be connected to a PC and USB Flash drives becomes active only when plugged into a USB connection which is the source of power supply to the USB flash drive.

A small portable flash memory card that is plugged into the computers’ USB port, functions as a portable hard drive.  USB flash drives are also called thumb drives, jump drives, key drives, pen drives or tokens. 

USB flash drives with 32 mega bytes or 64 giga bytes memory capacity is a feasible product regardless of the amount of material to be stored. 

Each USB flash drive has three components – a male type A connector (to interface with a hosting computer system), the USB mass storage controller (to store and balance the information to encrypt, transfer and decode very quickly) and a crystal oscillator (to give the best quality output).

USB Flash drive has a small circuit board and secure case to prevent damage to the circuit board.  The end of the USB Flash drive is simply inserted to a port on the computer and can access the information as long as the computer is connected to a USB hub.  The USB flash drive is a fast and convenient way to save and transfer the data.  A USB flash drive does not need rebooting after it is attached, requires no batteries or an external power supply and is not platform dependent.  USB Flash drive is also available with additional features like password protection and down loadable drivers making it compatible. 

With USB flash drive even when the device is unplugged from the computer or when the computer is powered down with the drive left in, the data is retained for longer periods.  This makes the USB Flash drive convenient for transferring data between the notebook computer and a desktop computer.

I purchased MP3 4gb flash portable media players for my kids for xmas, what else do they need to go with them?

Docking stations, covers, not really sure with these things and do I need to subscribe somewhere for them to download music and videos how does it all work? Keep in mind these aren’t the high end, they’re Coby MP600 – my kids are 7 and 9.

You won’t find speaker docks for anything but iPods and Zunes. Whether there are any available cases specific to that model, IDK. There are lots of generic pouches but they don’t necessarily allow access to the controls. Amazon and Walmart are both good choices for MP3 downloads.

Help. I can’t get my RCA universal Remote to work right. What do I do?

I have an RCA universal remote, model: RCU404. I know how to program it for my dvd player (which is a Toshiba), and I am making sure the device I’m trying to use is on, and that I have pressed the right button. The problem is the navigation buttons are not working right. (According to the manuel the volumn and channel buttons are the navigation buttons). I have to stop my dvd and restart it every time I want to go to a new menu. I have tried the trouble shooting advice at the end of the manuel and it hasn’t helped. I’ve tried resetting and reprograming it, following the manuel’s instructions but that only seems to be a temporary fix. Sometimes the indicator light starts flashing for several seconds right before the remote acts up. Is there anything else I can try?

Contact the RCA help desk. I had problems for years w an RCA remote that appeared to give me problems related to room temperature variations.

After messing w it for months, I finally called then & they helped me out. It wasn’t a universal tho.

Where can I get a VGA to a USB converter – to attach a USB to my LCD TV?

I have Samsung 32″ LCD which does not have a USB or a card reader. Can I attach a external reader for the same? if yes where can I get one?

USB no, but a card reader is possible. I believe they sell converters that read digital camera memory cards and can display the picture on a TV screen. Try Radio shack or any good electronic or camera store.

I’m looking at the Zen V mp3 8gb…I have a few questions…if you have one or have had one please help me out

I’m not really good with technology or anything…But I’m going to be running alot now, and am finally becoming more involved with music.
I am wondering how much 8 GB memory is? How many hours or minutes or songs or whatever can it hold?
I’m not going to be using it for pictures or videos…will that give me more storage space for songs?
Also, like some mp3′s I’ve heard of, do they have the option to stick in another memory card for more storage?
Is it reliable? So far from all of the reviews it sounds perty good…and its in my price range

Do NOT get a hard-drive mp3 player (iPod 30GB, Zen Vision M 30GB etc) if you plan to run with it! They have moving parts and they are NOT meant for jogging.

The Zen V is a flash player, so that’s ok for you. It’s hard to say how much music 8GB will hold because all music files are not of the same length or bitrate. Most of them are usually between 3-5MB, which is more than enough songs for your jogging session (1600-2700 songs).

Even if you’re not going to be using it for pictures or videos, it’s always a plus to have a screen, a color one is even better in my opinion. And yes, in your case, you’ll get all 8GB for your music.

The Zen V Plus doesn’t support additional memory, so no, you can’t use a memory card in it.

A flash player with an expansion slot is the Sansa e280 (8GB). It has a color screen, better than the Zen V Plus, however, I wouldn’t recommend it for jogging, it is a little fatter than the ZV+ and is not as “cute”.

Finally, yes, it is compatible with all major music stores (Napster, Rhapsody, Yahoo! etc.) as it is a PlayForSure player.

How we can share files from one machine to another in airtel usb data card connection ?

Suppose I have two machines with same internet connection. Now I have to do sharing i,e. I have to transfer files from one machine to another. It’s an airtel usb data card internet connection. How can I do this ?

Wait.. how are you accomplishing the secondary connection?
Because it’s THAT connection that you will be using to share files, unless you want to wait a LONG time.

So.. My guess here is that you have one machine with the Airtel plugged in to it, and then the second machine daisy-chained via Ethernet and Switch or Crossover Cable yes?
If that is the case… standard methods apply, and don;t worry at all about the Airtel card. You can even unplug it.

Machine B is using Machine A as default Gateway….
Machine A is using Airtel Connection as Gateway…

Simply put the machines in the same domain or workgroup (if windows), enable sharing in a folder on each machine, Mount those folders as network drives on the opposite machine, and share away.
