The Versatility of the Mp3 Player
The latest entry in the world of modern music is the MP3 player. Today it is the darling of the consumers. None of the previous generation could offer so many facilities – recording, 8-track-tapes, cassette-tapes as well as CD`s. It truly is a magical miracle. It can be carried in the palm and slipped into the pocket and yet it is powerful enough to create individualized music lists and carry along thousands of songs and music. All this information and facility is sometimes packed into a MP3 player that may weigh less than an ounce.
This portability gives it the edge over other players as also its storage facility. Some models of MP3 player have added ons like viewing of video and photo, alarm systems and calendar, cell phone and Internet functions.
The revolution of MP3 started in the late 90`s with the introduction of file-swapping and portability being high on the agenda. MPEG or Moving Picture Experts Group developed the compression system for storing video data. The MP3 reduces bytes in a song without losing the high quality effect of a CD. With this new device songs can be downloaded faster from the Internet. For example a four-minute song uses 40 megabytes to be downloaded but with a MP3 only 4 megabytes are required.
MP3 is the usual file format in use but others can also be played in MP3 players – WMA,MIDI, WAV, AAC, ADPCEM, VQF, ASF, ATRAC and Ogg Vorbis.
The previous generation of music players necessitated moving parts to read data on a tape or CD. But with MP3 players solid-state memory is used. It is a device that stores data with software imbedded in it that allows for application – that is transferring MP3 files to the player. Music can also be copied from the radio, CD`s radio and Internet. The list is termed playlist.
Many technologies have converged in this marvel called MP3 player. By itself not one of its components is new or revolutionary but by blending the previous ones an unparalleled and unique device has been manufactured. The basic parts of a MP3 consist of data-port, memory, micro and digital signal processor, display, playback facilities, audio port, power supply and amplifier.
The memory types are internal flash-memory, compact-flash-cards, smart-media-cards, memory-stick and internal-micro-drive. All are solid-state memory with the exception of internal-micro-drive. Without moving parts the advantage is more reliability. Moreover music does not skip. The MP3 contains minuscule hard-disk drives having the capacity to store 150 times more than flash-memory technology.
The brain of the player is the micro-processor. Through playback controls it monitors the input and shows information about the current song while sending relevant directions to the DSP chip.
Apart from storing music MP3 player plays music by drawing out the songs from memory and allows for amplification to enable the user to hear. All of the MP3 portable players are operated by battery. Mostly these are internal lithium type and have a lifespan ranging from 10 to 28 hours from one charge. AC adapters are also provided so that it can be used consuming ordinary electricity. DC adapters can be used while driving in a car.
There are as many types of MP3 players as there are consumers who purchase them. The choice depends on type of use, amount of storage required and how much the pocket will permit. Flash memory players are the tiniest and lightest. Hard drive and mini-hard drive players are bigger and heavier. Then there are MP3 CD players, mini players and also hybrid players sporting innumerable added ons that one has to see to believe.

You know those wireless USB internet ports, would I be able to use itouch wifi internet by connecting that to my computer? Or do I need an actual modem? I mean, it lets me use wireless internet through my laptop so I can’t see why it wouldn’t work for my itouch….
I just want to be sure before I spend $30 to top up the dongle.
If you are talking about a wifi dongle for your laptop, then I believe the answer for that would be, no. If you are talking about a bluetooth dongle to hook up the ipod touch to the computer via bluetooth, then I would think that is highly possible since it’s a wireless connection to your computer. Depends on the dongle you are talking about.

Standing Seam Metal Roofing- A Great Metal Roofing Solution
Metal roofing has very impressive attributes. It is extremely durable, lasting for over fifty years or even more. Requiring little or no maintenance, it is available in a number of designs to suit aesthetic preferences and architectural requirements. One of the many types available is the standing seam metal roof. Equally popular in areas with climatic conditions as diverse as hot and humid to freezing temperatures, the standing seam metal roof is available in a wide range of material, colors and designs.
This type of roof is made up of a number of interlocking panels that run vertically from the roof ridge to the eaves. The interlocking seam i.e. the place where two panels join is raised above the flat surface of the roof and is formed in various interlocking profiles, all of which prevent water form seeping between the joints letting it run freely down the panels.
The panels of a standing seam metal roof are either ‘factory cut’ to appropriate sizes or cut to size on the jobsite using suitable equipment. The roofing is then put together using the upturned joints of the panels/pieces for interlocking the adjoining panels/pieces. No nails are used for joining the panels; hidden fasteners or clips are used instead. The panels are placed in a manner that makes one panel/piece stand partially on top of another to prevent water from seeping in.
Another big advantage with these roofs is that they are very easy to install and require relatively much less time for installation. Lesser time means lesser cost and also that outside people like construction workers are present in the house for a shorter duration of time. Although these roofs are never ‘off the shelf’ products available in your home improvement store, there are some options like standing seam shingles that come prepackaged and ready for installation in three to five foot lengths. These shingles are installed to provide an overall aesthetic effect that is very appealing and eye catching.
Experienced roofing contractors who undertake installation of standing seam metal roofs usually manufacture the roof panels, custom trim and flashings on the jobsite to ensure high quality panels that provide durable and weather tight roofing solutions, together with high visual appeal. These roofs remain weather tight in even in severe weather conditions like hail storms and hurricanes. The clips and fasteners help retain the panel position to resist strong winds and expand/contract with change in temperature, without suffering structural damage. It remains water tight because of the weather tight seam, which is raised above the roof’s drainage area. The roof is resistant to shrinking, perforating, cracking, puncturing, rusting and corroding.
Standing seam metal roofs are lightweight, long lasting and fire resistant. They cut down installation time by about half. They are suitable for installation across purling, and can be laid directly on top of solid decking or rigid insulation. These roofing products are available in different thicknesses in galvanized steel, stainless steel, zinc, copper, aluminum and zinc aluminum alloy with a variety of special coatings in different colors for enhanced corrosion resistance.

I have clip-in extensions, and the clip is metal.
When I’m passing through airport security, will the metal detector alarm go off if I’m wearing the extensions?
And, if the alarm does go off, will they make me take out my extensions?

It is very unlikely that the detector will beep. People wear rings, jewelry, have metal in the buttons of jeans and so on – and go through with no trouble.
Eve if it did, they would just run the hand wand over you to make sure that it was only that item causing the beep.

Does anyone make an audio cassette player that you can plug into the cigarette lighter in your car?
I have some old audio tapes that I’d like to listen to in my vehicle, but we have a CD player and not a cassette tape player. I was wondering if they make such a thing. (The other option would be to just take along a boombox with batteries, but then you have to keep buying batteries.)
If you don’t mine using a boom box, I would get yourself a power inverter.

When in 2001 apple published the first verison of the ipod, nobody could imagine what a high influence the whole ipod thing would have nowadays. Throughout the time, apple turned the common mp3 player into a fashion product and to some sort of a status symbol. Ipods are cool and trendy.
The first ipod had a memory capacity of 5 GB. This could be reached with the use of a mini 1,8“ hard drive, where the most other mp3 players use flash memory. The disadvantages of the hard drives are, that they are slower than flash memory, and not very break-safe. So if you drop a HDD the chance is pretty high that it will be damaged.
The controller of the ipod is called Touch Wheel because it is touch sensitive. With more than 100 sensors it tracks the rotation direction of your fingers to scroll through your tracks. But it also has five buttons, play/pause, forward, backwards, menu and the middle button. In the newer versions they are integrated into the Touch Wheel, now called Click Wheel. The first time it was implemented was in the iPod mini (2004).
2005 the iPod mini was replaced by the iPod nano model. The first generation was equipped with 1,2 or 4 GB of flash memory, and had enormous reduced dimensions compared to the normal iPod model. It also comes with an color display. The third generation of the ipod nano was the first which could play videos. But the first color display was implemented on the iPod photo, already in 2004.
On the way to the iPod touch, there first had to come the iPod shuffle. A mini mp3 player without a display. The only options you have are to shuffle the titles, like the name says, or to play them in row. No single title selection is possible. With its very small size the iPod shuffle is perfectly for jogging or biking.
The iPod touch is the newest model of the iPod family. It was published ca at the same time as the iPhone, and has nearly the same functions as it, beside the mobile phone functions.The iPod touch has the possibility to install software (Apps), play music and videos or even whole films. But it has no camera like the iPhone. It also has a multiple touch touchscreen. Apple promotes the iPod Touch as mobile video games console.
The memory of the iPod’s increased enormously throughout the time. So the first gen Ipod from 2001 had a memory of 5 or 10 GB. The 6.2 version of the classic iPod comes with 120 or 160 GB. And also the other models where improved permanently.
I think the only way that the iPod could become so popular is that apple gives it such an „exclusive“ style. You can only charge your iPod with the iTunes software, only can use Apps from the Apple store, and you even can’t change the batterys yourself. Today the iPod is not just a product, it has become a lifestyle.
