Redlaser, Scanlife, and Motorola making shopping easier with Mobile
For all you business owners who are open during selected times, soon you will be able to sell merchandise 24 7 by simply displaying your products in your store window. In fact, a boutique in New York is already doing this through ScanLife technology which also allows people to scan bar codes on merchandise and obtain details about the clothes through videos.
If you own a restaurant, hair salon, hotel or any type of service-driven business that often has to make customers wait, then you might want to check out ReadyPing – a service provider of wait-list management and text-message paging. Restaurants and other businesses who have internet access can use this new software to send text messages to alert customers when their product or service is ready.
The software will send text messages to any mobile phone with any mobile carrier. After the customer receives the text, they will not receive any other text messages. To make things easy for the hostess (for example), ReadyPing is giving away free iPads to businesses so that when staff has to leave the front desk, they can manage the software on foot if needed. Of course this is a big advantage over other pager systems as there is no hardware to buy or software to install and the range of sending text messages has no limit.
Not imagine stepping foot into a store and immediately you receive real-time mobile coupons based on your shopping history. This is what IBM is testing with their new product Presence. Shoppers will have their spending habits and browsing time spent in various departments tracked which will help the system suggest which items might interest you and entice you with coupons.
Cisco is also creating a tool that will able to connect smartphones to retailers’ wireless networks. A shopper will be able to type toilet paper into his cell phone in order to find the exact location of toilet paper in the store.
Motorola will soon offer retailers the ability to offer customers loyalty programs on their mobile phones instead of loyalty cards. They are also working on a kiosk system that will enable consumers to summon a clerk to a particular department or fitting room when needed.
RedLaser allows shoppers’ the ability to compare prices in a physical store to stores on the web by simply just scanning a barcode. Wow, even after a retailer did all the hard work to get traffic into the store, that still is not enough.
