water damaged iphone 3g?
my iphone 3g got a little water in it. now it only works when it is charging and even then the power button doesnt work and it occasionally asks if i want to turn it off or the headphone image pops up and wont go away. i have replaced both the battery and the entire mother board and it still is acting like this. does anyone have any idea what could be causing this if its not the battery or mother board? it doesn’t make sense.. the only other parts are the camera, headphone jack and volume/silence buttons, and the speaker/charging dock.
If you’ve tried to dry it off and clean it out the best you can and it still won’t work, you might want to try giving it a “wash” with rubbing alcohol. It’s possible for water to leave behind deposits that will still conduct electricity even after the water has dried. The rubbing alcohol should allow you to clean such deposits off without adding anymore.
In a last resort you can get a battery case. These cases have an extra external battery in them that connect to the dock, allowing you to use external power. Since you said that it would work while charging, this would have the same effect. I don’t know how long such a case would power your iPhone for, but if you run out of options then it might be something to consider. I have heard good things about the one Monoprice.com sells (http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=108&cp_id=10831&cs_id=1083110&p_id=5866)
