What is the diff between an ipod and mp3 player!?
OK, I’m looking at a 4GB ipod nano Stores up to 1,000 songs. The MP3 player is a philips 30GB holds up to 15,000 songs and has voice recorder. They are the same price $199.99. Can anyone please help me.. I don’t know anything about these products..and why most people like ipods???
They are the same genre of product, but there are differences–mainly related to downloading music. The downloads are protected with an embedded DRM (digital rights management). Unfortunately, Apple, Microsoft (for the Zune) and other players each have their own. So you can’t play music that you buy from iTunes on a non-iPod player, and you can’t play music you buy from someplace like Yahoo music on the iPod.
If you only plan on ripping your own CDs, they also have different music formats. Both can play MP3, but other than that formats vary–for instance, non-Apple players can play WMA files, and Apple has its own AAC format. If you have tunes in one of those formats, stick with the player that can play them. If you only plan on using the mp3 format, then don’t worry about it.
The big advantage with the ipods is that there are a million accessories, and the accessories are available everywhere. With others you’re more limited in choice, and you probably have to buy online.
As far as the Nano–the reason people like it, even though it seems expensive for a smaller capacity, is (1) very small size, and (2) it’s a flash drive instead of a hard disc, which makes it better for running, exercising, and other bouncy activities that could damage a hard disc-based player.
