There’s no compromise with the Sony Ericsson W995. Sony Ericsson’s latest flagship Walkman phone has the full range of advanced music player features that users have come to expect from the range. Not only that though, they’ve also added a fantastic camera and then packed it with lots of clever multimedia features such as Google Maps, GPS, WiFi, motion games, YouTube and BBC iPlayer support. If that wasn’t enough – the w995 is priced at mid-range! This is a winning mobile phone.
First, the camera. This is a considerable improvement to the Walkman range. Indeed, the w995′s camera competes easily with the mid-range CyberShot phones with a stunning 8.1 megapixels, face detection autofocus and flash. The built-in accelerometer will automatically rotate the screen when you’re viewing photos from landscape to portrait. It also offers great video quality and video calling on a 3G network, a feature best used if you buy it as a contract phone.
Second, the music player. The Walkman 4.0 player supports several advanced features. For example, SensMe™ lets you create playlists based on tempo and mood. You’ve also got shake control thanks again to the accelerometer, as well as equalise, shuffle and album art. Taking advantage of Sony technology, there’s also Clear Bass and Clear Stereo – this makes for excellent music listening, especially if you use the 3.5mm audio jack with your own high-quality headphones. Our other favourite little feature is the flight mode – you can disable the transmitter and still listen to your music, meaning one less device (and charger) to carry when you travel.
And then there’s the multimedia capabilities. You might not want to watch a full length film on a 2.6″ screen, even with the The PlayNow™ store that will let you download movies as well as music. But we definitely enjoy watching YouTube and rather marvellously, Sky Player and BBC iPlayer. We also love the a-GPS which you can use to geo-tag images or to navigate with Google Maps.
Because of this, if you’re going to get the Sony Ericsson w995, we’d really recommend that you look out for mobile phone deals with lots of internet access. For example, with the Orange Dolphin 40 plan you can get 500mb of anytime mobile internet browsing free monthly.
It seems like there’s nothing to fault with the w995 and with all the features it packs in, it offers outstandingly good value for money, especially if entertainment everywhere is what you’re looking for.
