The US government has just ruled the practice legal under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA). The ruling explains, “When one jailbreaks a smartphone in order to make the operating system on that phone interoperable with an independently created application that has not been approved by the maker of the smartphone or the maker of its operating system, the modifications that are made purely for the purpose of such interoperability are fair uses.” That’s to say, when you buy the device, you have the right to run whatever software you like, no matter who developed the program.

BlackBerry device maker, Research In Motion (RIM) recently acquired DataViz, the developer company’s Microsoft Office document editing applications in mobile devices.

As quoted from the site InformationWeek, RIM has acquired virtually all assets and employees of DataViz. CrackBerry site the first time this led to rumors of the acquisition after several employees DataViz update their LinkedIn profile.

RIM does not disclose how much the value of this acquisition. However, the value of CrackBerry said acquisition amounted to U.S. $ 50 million (about USD 450 billion).

DataViz Is a developer of Documents To Go application, document editor Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, in various types of mobile, including the iPhone, iPad, Android, BlackBerry, Maemo, PalmOS, and Windows Mobile.
